A desire for freedom, spending time outdoors and enjoying nature has become very important for all of us. This is even more evident after being locked down during the pandemic. We suddenly realised just how important our freedom to roam is and how we need to find a balance between work and other parts of our lives. Which is probably why roof tents are a rapidly growing trend.
Roof tents are designed to fold down neatly and to fit onto a roof rack on almost
any car. When you want to use them, they unfold quickly and easily, giving you a sleeping space on top of your car in minutes. Mattresses and bedding can be kept in the tent when it's folded, making them very convenient.
Lovers of camper vans have found this freedom and work/life balance but it can be expensive to buy or convert a van. Roof tents can give you the lifestyle you crave, even if it's just whilst you build your dream van.
Here at Camper Interiors, Hannah has a Thule Tepui Foothill 2 Person Tent on the top of her Land Rover. A great feature of this one is that it's installed on one side of your roof, leaving room on the other side to carry other cargo, such as bikes or paddle boards. Comfortably sleeping two people, with a panoramic rear window and dual skylights (when the rain cover is removed) this is an ideal first roof tent. See here for more details, dimensions and a video of installation and setting up.
Thule also offer another 2 person roof tent, the Thule Tepui Ayer 2. Designed to withstand the elements, it can be used all year round. The fabric is particularly strong and is both UV and mould resistant. See here for more details, dimensions and a video of setting up.
If you'd like something a little bigger, the Thule Tepui Kukenam 3 Person Roof Tent might be the one for you. Again, designed to be used in even the harshest of conditions, using strong, weather resistant fabric that's also breathable. See here for more details and dimensions.
Roof tents are definitely a convenient way to be able to just get up and go!
Of course, there are other roof tents on the market and in our next blog we'll introduce you to TentBox roof tents who are launching two new models mid-April 2023.
