Sidepodz™ - Mercedes Sprinter/VW Crafter
The medium wheelbase Mercedes Sprinter/VW Crafter vans are a popular choice for conversions, but to be able to squeeze a full length bed, cooking and seating for 4 people, along with a bathroom, has required some clever layouts and sometimes compromises along the way.
Our Sidepodz™ utilise the rear window apertures and the wasted space behind the standard ply lining to pick up extra width, allowing a 6'4" bed across the rear of the van, whilst only adding 2 inches to either side of the van. You cut out the body panel , as though you were to fit a bonded window and the Sidepodz™ are then bolted and bonded in place, ready for you to insulate and trim out your extra space😊
The Dometic S7P windows are a perfect fit on the curved surface of the Sidepodz™, allowing a range of window sizes and positions to be used.
We now have our own Curved Glass Sliding and Fixed Bunk windows, which are also a perfect fit.
You can use the CR Laurence bunk sliders, but as they are designed for a flat surface, the do flatten the curved main surface slightly.
These have been Designed and made in the UK, utilising a range of traditional pattern making skills along with the latest 3D scanning, modelling and the CNC machining for the master moulds.
These Sidepodz™ will fit the current Mercedes Benz Sprinter from 2006 and the VW Crafter, up until 2017, when VW teamed up with MAN TGE to create a different body style. On the latest Mercedes Sprinters, most vans come with an extended sliding door roller arm, which will clear the Sidepodz™, earlier vans may need the roller arm swapping out, but it is only a 10 minute swap and we will provide you with the part number, or can provide you the roller arm at additional cost.
They have been designed to fit both left and right hand drive vans, by virtue of both sides being the same depth.
These will be supplied in a light grey gelcoat finish, ready to be prepped and painted.
Please also note that the front of the Sidepodz™ utilise some of the inner space of the sliding door window recess, so standard ply lining needs to be removed, to clear the pod.
Also some of the larger motorhome style cassette blinds may be too deep to clear the Sidepodz™, depending on the manufacturer, so please check that you have enough clearance.
